About this blog

Why I write this blog

I spend a lot (too much) of my time thinking about climate change and nature. In fact, I’m a bit of a nerd about this stuff. Professionally, I work in sustainability as a consultant, which allows me to combine my climate obsession, my formal study (MSc in Climate Change Science and Policy), with my hands-on experience.

One thing I’ve learned is that climate and sustainability information is often difficult to access, digest, and find; there’s a lot of it out there, and it’s hard to know what’s right and the original source of information. Dense reports, academic language, and biased debates can make it hard to understand what’s really going on, what matters most, and why.

I started this blog to translate complex, science-based ideas into something clearer and more usable, but without dumbing them down.  This blog reflects my perspective. It’s informed by science, experience, and a lot of reading, but it’s still my view. You may disagree, and that’s okay. The aim is to think critically, stay grounded in evidence, and keep the conversation honest.

I care deeply about nature, fairness and justice, and I strongly believe good decisions come from well-researched information and good intentions.

About this blog

The goal is to stay science-based, clear, and realistic. It is for anyone who’s curious about sustainability but doesn’t want to wade through academic papers or policy jargon to get there. You’ll find explanations of key ideas, reflections on climate news and hot topics, discussions about nature and justice, and my own opinions on what all of this means in practice. I try to keep things informal, accessible, and grounded by evidence.

I hope this blog:

  • Teaches you something new about climate and sustainability
  • Inspires you to take action
  • Helps you make informed decisions
  • Translates complexity into simplicity
  • Sparks some great conversations in the comments section/discussion boards

Getting to know the non-climate side of me

  • I’m Kate
  • I live in London, UK
  • I’m often found with tea in hand
  • Other than climate, my other obsessions are my cat, travelling, food (and wine), music, and, of course, my family and friends.

Why do I say climate and sustainability?

Climate change is arguably the biggest issue that humanity and our planet are facing. However, we need to think wider than just climate. Sustainability is a huge part of this – it’s about ensuring that we exist and thrive in the future. Sustainability is about “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, integrating social, economic, and environmental dimensions” (UN definition).  Therefore, although this blog focuses on climate issues, it definitely touches the realm of sustainability and will cover interlinked social, economic, and wider environmental considerations.
